Associazione Siciliana nel Queensland

Sicilian Association of Queensland

The Sicilian Association of Qld conducts a mass in devotion to Santa Lucia who is a Catholic Saint
from the Syracusa region of Sicily. In 2007 and 2008 the Sicilian Association had constructed a
permanent chapel to house the statue of Santa Lucia. A mass and dedication ceremony was conducted
by Padre Mauro Conte of the Scalabrinian order and assisted by Father Columbo of the Paolini order
on Friday 12th December, 2008.

In conducting the dedication mass, the Association also conducted a bus trip to the venue and catered for
over 100 people with a sumptuous lunch. Funds raised at the mass are donated annually to Vision Australia,
formerly known as the Royal Blind Foundation of Queensland.

The Assocation will in future hold this mass at the Marian Valley retreat in early December 2008 each year
and members of the association are invited to undertake this pilgrimage. The mass is usually held in the 2nd week of December.

Please see our Calendar page for the actual date for 2009 and any members or guests wishing to attend
should contact a member of the Committee.
